Saying we love Gachatha would be an understatement. We have purchased coffee from Gachatha almost every year for the last 9 years, and have been privileged to visit this amazing washing station and several of the 1,000 farmers that make up the Gachatha factory.
We purchased this lot from the week 18 out-turn from the washing station. This coffee is jammed with big, juicy notes of nectarine, honey, rainbow sherbet, white grape and tamarind; everything we love and expect from Gachatha. It's a medium bodied cup with beautifully balanced acidity. A true classic that continues to live up to the hype, year after year.
A note on screen size: The AA, AB and other grades used to classify lots in Kenya are an indication of screen size only, not an indication of cup quality. The AA grade in Kenya is equivalent to screen size 17 or 18 (17/64 of 18/64 of an inch) used at other origins. AA grades often command a higher price at auction even though this grade is no indication of cup quality. Often the AB lots score higher, as is true in the case of several Kenyan lots we cupped this year, including the Gachatha. PB is the smallest screen size.
