The Wachiru is a new coffee discovery for us this year, and we couldn't be happier to bring in this juicy gem of a coffee. When we first came across the Wachiru, while in Kenya back in January, we were struck by its lovely notes of fresh, local strawberries, honey, nectarine and Concord grape. Fragrant aromatics burst from the cup, and a rounded acidity plays nicely on the tongue. The finish is caramelly, rich and sweet, reminiscent of creme brûlée.
We purchased the week 17 out-turn of the AB lot from the Wachuri Farmers Cooperative Society Limited, which has around 900 members of small-holder farmers. Once coffees are hand-picked at peak ripeness, the coffee is processed at the Wachuri Factory wet mill and dry-milled at the Sagana Coffee Mills.
